Our products use metal components which are electroplated to give a variety of finishes.

The components have an epoxy coating applied to them to extend the wear and durability of the plating.

The type of metal plating used and the thickness of the plating are factors which contribute to the cost of a pen.

The more stuff there is, the more it costs!

The platings  we use are:

Gold

This is probably the most widely used plating; gold by its nature is a soft metal and so is usually protected with an epoxy coating to extend its wear and durability.

24k Gold This is the least durable of the gold platings and usually epoxy coated.

10k Gold This is a combination of gold and nickel which gives a harder and therefore more durable finish.

Upgrade Gold This is an alloy of gold and cobalt or palladium; this makes it very durable and wear resistant.

Titanium Gold and Black Titanium

These are  very popular platings and look very good, giving superior wear resistance, but are not as expensive as other precious metal platings.

Chrome and Black Chrome

Chrome is a familiar and attractive plating used in many applications.

The bright shiny silver coloured finish is extremely durable and wear resistant and is an economic option for this look.

Chrome and coloured chrome oxides are combined in the plating process to give a Black Chrome, which is a black shiny durable finish.

Gunmetal

This finish is achieved by using a black nickel plating it is very similar in appearance to Black Titanium, but at a more economic cost.

An attractive and durable plating.

Silver

A familiar and reliable plating, adding a beautiful lustre and quality to the pen

A very durable and expensive finish, a quality plating would be about 20 microns thick. It is  epoxy coated to slow down the tarnishing that silver is susceptible to.

Rhodium/Platinum

Frequently used interchangeably as they both belong to the same group of metal elements and have similar properties. Both these platings are extremely durable and resilient with an unsurpassed brilliance. Rhodium is one of the rarest metal elements and this is reflected in its cost.

They are used extensively in the pen industry and are used in upper end products. Bringing a look of class and quality, which comes with a higher cost. They don’t tarnish and are very durable and corrosion resistant finishes.
